Justice League #1 2011 review

After spending too much time on IGN.com and watching too many times Moviebob, you (and by ‘you’ I especially mean ‘me’) can’t really look away from it. From what? Well, from the big reboot that DC comics was promoting.
DC comics is known for the superheroes such as Batman, Superman, Wonder-woman, Green Lantern and many other fiction characters in bright outfits (as in, very bright). After years of releasing comics with insane new stories for hardcore comic fans to enjoy, DC has decided to reboot the entire (ENTIRE!) universe with a fresh #1, well 52 #1′s so it be. All with the intension of introducing new readers to the DC universe, and taking our money in the progress. Though I know plenty of DC comics and started reading some batman graphics novels a little while ago (that I also might review one day or another), I still consider myself a rookie, so I jumped on board and downloaded one of the comics:  Justice League #1 . Let’s see what this is all about…

Now comics aren’t exactly something that’s lies around waiting in you everywhere you look. You often have to go to special comic shops to buy them. Here in precious Belgium that’s a problem since we don’t have that many special comic shops like in the USA and the ones we do, are specialized in our own goods. BELGIAN comics! That’s not a bad thing, far from it. It’s just that when you want to read Batman or Superman or the X-men or whatever, you ain’t gonna find it easily. That’s why I order them graphic novels on eBay.
The luxury of the new DC comics is that now you can download a digital version of their latest comics on your iPhone or iPad (and probably other stuff). Bye bye looking forever for American stuff, I press a few clicks and Justice League #1 was ready for reading.

I also mention this because I read the comic on my iPhone and to be honest, it doesn’t really do the comic justice. The artwork is outstanding and then to go and look at it, on a small screen, that’s kinda sad actually. So either go get it on an iPad or don’t be lazy and go buy it in a store. Wait, you must go get it? Is the comic that good?
Ah jeez, I still have to get into this whole review thingy. It’s not a bad comic, it’s just…not much (what do you expect for 3 bucks?). See, this is why I consider myself a rookie. I read it, took like 10 minutes and I was like ‘this is it?’ Since I’m used to graphic novels I kinda forgot I guess that these kinds of comics aren’t meant to be fully worked-out stories in an instance. They’re episodes of a big series (the fact that I’m explaining this, should prove my rookieness). It just feels a bit strange that you basically get a small portion of something probably major, and that you have to buy every piece out there till’ one day you’re satisfied with the tale that you’ve read so far (bloody continuity).

So basically, does this Justice League #1 make me wanna read Justice League #2? Well…yeah it does. The comic was good enough to make me curious. And what it offered me was good enough. I didn’t recieved the whole justice League bunch already but I got Batman so I’m happy. The artwork is great, another bonus point. It isn’t text-heavy, far from it. This is an introduction so what do you want? Batman doesn’t questions Green Lantern’s all-mighty powers…yet (or at least not by much).
Okay yeah, the way that I’m talking about this comic pretty much shows that I’m interested in it. So the reboot basically worked. Question is, has it worked for you? You don’t know? Then go figure it out. Either you waste 3 bucks (or something like that) and that’s that, or you waste 3 bucks and you planning on wasting more, because you wanna see more…

Comics… they are indeed weird…
